Nominet - New registrar agreement.
In September 2005, following the results of a customer satisfaction survey, in which over 80% of registrars who responded said that they felt increased regulation or a code of conduct for the Internet industry was required, the Nominet Policy Advisory Board (PAB) agreed that Nominet (the company) should look at the issue of industry standards.
Nominet undertook the consultation on Raising Industry Standards from 31 January to 31 May 2006. Having reviewed the consultation responses, along with feedback from members, MPs, other interested parties, including discussions with the PAB, it was agreed that the existing Tag Holder Agreement will be replaced with a Registrar Agreement and Good Practice Terms.
These documents are available on the Nominet web site.
The new agreement (including the Good Practice Terms) will come into effect on 1 March 2007 and will replace the existing tag holder agreement. References to the Registrar Agreement in the definition and interpretation terms will be updated accordingly.
Arrowhead Systems are proud of our levels of customer service, levels that have always met and exceeded those laid out in the new Good Practise Terms and welcome all efforts to raise industry standards.
Some registrars register domain names in there own name rather than that of their customer, this will break the new registrar agreement terms. In future, a registrar will have to have written permission from their customer prior to domain registration, a condition that should ensure that this bad practise dies out quickly.
